Patricia is a visual artist whose practice – assemblages, collages, prints and photography – is inspired by a love of the Sussex coastline.
‘Altered States’ is a collection of mixed media assemblages using beach detritus. Already altered by time, the weather and the sea this is further altered to become a composition - a seascape, landscape, an abstract surface -juxtaposing light and dark, colour and texture.
Materials are twisted, wrapped, threaded, pulled, sewn, frayed, bound, squashed, cut, burnt, ground down, melted and altered to take on a new form
Recurring themes include layering, overlapping, the act of looking through.
Often the work evolves from a particular found item; often it reflects a sense of place.
